Infill residential development at Llangadwaladr, Anglesey.
Formerly a forge and blacksmiths' yard, the main house had previously been converted and the outbuildings demolished.
The forge provides the motif of the chimney, the anchor for the new dwellings. Each are designed around a feature fireplace, with a dominant chimney in the elevationsla composition. Contextual studies revealed that chinmneys are often executed in a contrasting brick to the render finish of a building, for example. The chimneys are therefore designed in continuity with the tradition of material contrast.
